John Nastelli , Longwood College '98,
John is a native Virginian, born and raised in Fredericksburg.
After High School he attended (then) Longwood College, and in 1998
met the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau. His time with the brothers was a
life changing experience, and still Phi Tau offers him new and exciting
ways to both challenge himself and others around him. During his time
as an undergraduate brother he served as Social chair, Treasurer, and
finally President of the Epsilon Lambda chapter.
After graduation he moved to Richmond, Va,.
where he worked and lived for 3 years. In 2005 he moved to Arlington,
Va, and 7 months ago moved a third time to Herndon, Va. He has a nice
home, a great job, and a beautiful girl whom he hopes to one day call
his wife.

Dr. Daniel M. Dauer, Gamma Tau '67,
Dr. Dauer has been a faculty member for the last 33 years in
the Department of Biological Sciences of Old Dominion University
where he holds the rank of Professor and special designation as
Eminent Scholar of Marine Ecology. He held previous research
positions at the University of Southern California, University of
South Florida and University of South Carolina and has been a
visiting research scientist at the Duke University Marine Lab,
Beaufort, North Carolina; the Bamfield Marine Lab, British
Columbia, Canada; the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric
Research, Wellington, New Zealand; and the Lizard Island Research
Station, Lizard Island, Australia.
He is the Principal Investigator of the Virginia Water Quality and
Living Resources Monitoring Program that is part of the Chesapeake
Bay Restoration Program. This program began in 1985 and tracks
trends in water quality and the biota of the Bay throughout the
tidal waters of Virginia. His research concerns the use of
bottom-dwelling communities as indicators of environmental quality
and the integration of all monitoring data to assess progress in
estuarine and coastal restoration.
Dr. Dauer has over 200 published papers and technical reports
concerning benthic communities and environmental health and has
been involved in over 250 invited talks and presentations at
scientific meetings. Dr. Dauer has been awarded over 120 grants
and contracts with a total funding in excess of 18 million dollars.
Recognition of Dr. Dauer’s teaching excellence and research
accomplishments include (1) the 2005 paper of the year for the
journal Human and Ecological Risk Assessment ; (2) Virginia’s
highest faculty award - the State Council of Higher Education’s
Outstanding Faculty Award for 1999; (3) ODU’s highest faculty
award in 1998 - the Distinguished Faculty Award (Alan Rufus Tonelson
Award); (4) outstanding presentation award at the Third International
Conference on the Environmental Management of Enclosed Coastal Seas
held in Stockholm, Sweden (1997); and (5) ODU’s highest research
award for a career of notable accomplishments - the Outstanding
Researcher Award (1993).

Don Stansberry Beta '87,
Don is currently the Associate Dean of Student Life at Old
Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to assuming this
position, he served as the Director of Student Activities &
Leadership at ODU. Don has been a member of the Student Affairs
staff at ODU since 2000. His career in higher education has included
serving as the Associate Director of Student Activities at Towson
University, Assistant Director for Programming and Leadership
Development at Western Illinois University, and Director of Student
of Student Activities at Defiance College.
Originally from Ohio, a Beta chapter alumni, Don
received his Bachelors Degree in Organizational Communication and
Masters Degree in Higher Education from Ohio University.
He is actively involved in many organizations in including, Phi
Kappa Tau fraternity serving as the Tidewater Domain Director, BMC
Lead facilitator, Leadership Academy Faculty and a member of the
Leadership Education Strategic Planning Team. He is also a recipient
of the Stennis Outstanding Domain Director Award.
